The SEO World According to Carlos

Carlos Makes Kim Krause Berg Laugh

Apparently Kim and I both share a warm spot for water avian in ball gowns:

I laughed when I read SEO and Usability: Don’t Beat a Dead Horse, which is a response to my SEO and Usability: Be That Stallion and Round Up The Herd. He has a point and I though it was likely a sign that I’m a usability idealist.

I say that if the duck can dance hip hop, drive a Ford Mustang (my teenage daughter’s boyfriend says that’s his choice for cool even if you’re a “dork”) and willingly pay for your date’s prom dress, then who cares?

Carlos Reads Sphinn, Gets Confused

Apparently going hot on Sphinn looks like this:

  • Write an # of things post based on personal bias that leaves out an important point
  • DoshDosh submits you to Sphinn
  • Rand Fishkin reads because DoshDosh submitted
  • Rand points out that you missed an important point. And that you are using largely personal aesthetic as your platform.
  • 38 people Sphinn and comments agree with Rand.
  • Carlos scratches his head

Alright no big deal, there has to be some reason that people Sphunn this. So after reading the post I seriously think that people hit the Sphinn button because of Rand and DoshDosh. It isn’t a brilliant article, it doesn’t give great advice, and it doesn’t pay any respect to the fact that it only covers one target audiences’ views. The post is largely preaching to the choir — people who aesthetically agree with the author — but as general advice it is a weak foundation.

I notice that no one Desphunn. I want to offer up that listing the names of the people who Sphinn/Desphinn makes people reticent to risk souring their screen name by opposing DoshDosh; a power Sphinner. I am surprised that Rand didn’t Desphinn. I am going to Desphinn after posting this, no offense Dosh. It’s not you it’s the article.

Carlos Feels Excitement About SMX

I am going to be in Santa Clara next week and I am looking forward to meeting some of you that I only know from online. It has been a while since I have been in the Bay Area and I get to see some people I haven’t seen in a while.

Carlos Gets Mail

Today a couple of books came in the mail for me. I am going to read them and put up a review in the near future.

Web Design for ROI: Turing Browsers into Buyers & Prospects Into Leads –  Fairly short and lots of pictures so this one will probably be first.
Landing Page Optimization: The Definitive Guide to Testing and Tuning for Conversions — That is a very grandios title. We will see how definitive it is, I have high expectations.
